a succession of profits

Explanation:
"... the bank will need a succession of profits..."
Without reading the whole paragraph it is a bit difficult to choose the right translation. Maybe this one helps.

returns to scale

Explanation:
"the bank will need more returns to scale," ie., more savings/profit/etc. due to size advantage. At least that seems the most likely translation without more context.

Quantity related gains

Explanation:
There might be a better English expresssion to describe "ganhos de escala", but it doesn't occur to me at the moment. However, the concept is as follows: if you buy 10,000 units you'll pay less than if you buy 100. The same applies to production. A prototype will cost you an amount uncomparable to what the same product will cost in mass production. And what you gain is called "ganhos de escala".

Economies of scale

Explanation:
Jane is right. This is a standard term in Economics. Even though "ganhos" isn't the same as "economias", the term, as applied here, means the same thing.

Here's Merriam-Webster's take on it:

Main Entry: economy of scale
Date: 1957
: a reduction in unit costs brought about especially by increased size of production facilities -- usually used in plural

scale gains

Explanation:
Pode usar gains, não é scale economy nem scale profits, porque os ganhos de escala podem não ser lucros, podem ser redução de despesas.
