Portuguese term or phrase: Cumprida ou extinta a pena...
Hi all. This is quite a long phrase on a criminal record check. It seems to be from an Article or Law - very official language and difficult to decipher....

"Art. 202 da lei XXX: Cumprida ou extinta a pena, não constarão .... qualquer notícia ou referêcia à condenação, salvo para instruir processo pela prática de nova infração penal ou outros casos expressos na lei."

Once the penalty has been paid, served, or discharged
Explanation:
I do not think there is a straight translation of cumprida here , because the target verb depends on the nature of the penalty imposed.

agree  Marlene Curtis: Yes, a sentence is SERVED./We say it the same way in the USA.

-> Yes, indeed, Marlene. This is proper English and this is how we say in England, as well. Thanks for your precious input. /2. This is standard, then. :)
