Education / Pedagogy

We have parent-teacher conferences each term but they are for all who want to talk to the teachers. Sometimes younger kids' parents are required to sort of "check in" with teachers like that each term.

If there is a student that is having trouble, they will call a special conference and then kids who need special assistance get a thing called an IEP (Individual Education Plan).

doubt there is a specific term for that. I'm not a teacher, but I'm not aware of teachers officially getting together and discussing a particular student's situation. If a student's academic status is being dicussed, it would more than likely be between a teacher and the principal or guidance counselor.

Teachers meet all the time in the U.S. for stuff like that as a group. Generally it's a type of staff meeting or Teacher In Service Day that they get together for those. We don't really know what is going on as parents.. they just get together - then get with parents.

conselho de classe
conselho de classe (student evaluation board)

Explanation:
Research suggests that this has often been translated in the past as "conselho de classe" with a translator's note in English, since there is no exact equivalent in the U.S. academic system.

Check out this example from https://www.britishschool.g12.br/publications/files/Parent M...

"The Conselho de Classe is a meeting of all teachers and counselors involved with a particular year group. A meeting for each year group is held twice yearly, after term grades have been awarded. The Conselho may also be called for extraordinary meetings in cases of pupils who are not adapting to the school’s program of studies or who are involved with serious breaches of discipline.

The Conselho de Classe examines the learning and teaching process within each year group through the discussion and interaction of all those involved. It also investigates causes of insufficient motivation and poor learning and attendance of a specific pupil or class.

The Conselho de Classe, in its final decision, must consider the following aspects to assess a pupil’s overall performance:
- the pupil’s academic and personal history;
- the pupil’s effort, attitude and participation in school life;
- the pupil’s attainment in each of the curriculum components, taking into account the average attainment of the class in each particular subject;
- the individual learning differences."

So, in summary, if it were my translation I would probably go with something like "conselho de classe (student evaluation board)" with a short translator's note of explanation.

Good luck!

Parent-teacher meeting/conference

Explanation:
Parent-teacher meeting
ou
Parent-teacher conference

Aqui nos EUA há sempre reuniões entre pais e professores onde discute-se comportamento, participação, notas, etc.

"Parent-teacher conferences are often scheduled at the time of the first report card for the school year. For parents and teachers, this is a chance to talk one-on-one about the student. The parent-teacher conference is a good opportunity to launch a partnership between parent and teacher that will function during the school year."

Quando não há pais envolvidos, pode-se chamar também de "Student Assessment Meeting".
