In mathematics, the "malha de pontos" (something like "pointed mesh" or "mesh of points") is used as base to make diagrams that represents various things.
If you look at it, it looks like the lego pattern, meaning the empty space under a lego piece used to attach it to the top of the other piece.
That's why I suggest translating it into "lego pattern"
