neutral  Marlene Curtis: Uma visão total não é necessariamente uma visão global.

neutral  kashew: Maybe ambiguous was not being totally accurate, but global is an over-used buzzword IMO. Global warming, global view etc...
1 hr
-> Roger that. I think I know what you mean.

agree  Douglas Bissell: Depite understanding Marlene's and kashew's doubts, "Global" is a buzz-word many customers like to see in their translations. I wouldn't knock it so quickly. Global perspective sounds better to my ear (but, hey I'm stone deaf)
2 hrs
-> I think I got what Marlene tried to say. Sometimes "global" is used to refer to something that's not in depth, like an overview or summary.

the big picture

Explanation:
This is often used.

big picture
the whole story of something; a complete view of something. (*Typically: get ~; have ~; give someone ~; know ~; see ~; show someone ~.) The sales manager gave us all the big picture this morning, and I'm more confused than ever.

disagree  kashew: I have serious doubts about this as appropriate here. It is certainly informal to GB ears. Sorry to disagree with so many.
1 hr
-> Would you mind telling us why? Does this sound too informal?

neutral  Douglas Bissell: I too have some doubts as to the informality of the phrase in this context, even though it is a phrase I use myself frequently. Good answer, wrong context
2 hrs

neutral  Ricardo Horta: What Douglas said
2 hrs

disagree  Marlene Curtis: Technically correct, but it doesn't fit in the context. One usually sees the "big picture".
