Portuguese to English translations [PRO]
Art/Literary - Idioms / Maxims / Sayings / Possible regionalism | | Portuguese term or phrase: descaideira | Source: transcription of a folk artist from Alagoas talking about his work. His language is colorful, poetic, and often obscure. I am attempting to separate his own idioletic usage from possible regionalisms. (There are no illustrations available.)
Are you familiar with this term as a regionalism?
I am also considering the possibility that the artist is doing a "riff" on "descair.
"Aqui atrás do São Jorge vou fazer a poupança do cavalo, aqui eu vou fazer o rabinho, e uma DESCAIDEIRA dele, da sela... E a serpente vem daqui. Vou fazer ela aqui, vem por aqui pra pegar a lança do São Jorge aqui direto, ói, São Jorge com a lança cravando a serpente aqui". |

Asker: Nick, is this an educated guess? I've had someone else suggest "ele quase caindo da sela, como se vê nas imagens de S.Jorge." This colleague is quite familiar with NE Portuguese. I'm just wondering what your source was. Thanks for the input, in any case!
