Portuguese to English translations [PRO]
Art/Literary - Idioms / Maxims / Sayings / Possible regionalism

Portuguese term or phrase: quandu

Source: transcription of a folk artist from Pernambuco talking about his work. His language is colorful, poetic, and often obscure. I am attempting to separate his own idioletic usage from possible regionalisms. (There are no illustrations available.)

I've tried variations on the spelling of this term, but could only come up with "guando" / "guandu", which are plants, and he is speaking of an animal. (Unless plants can have a "focinho" and "orelhas"...)

This is another case where the transcriptionist was also befuddled by the term.

"Essa outra madeira aqui é o focinho do QUANDU, tem até as orelha própria da madeira e ninguém vem encaixar. Só que ela é uma madeira muito estragada, né? Tá só com formato, mas esse formato que tá aqui, se eu achar, já ganhei ele, pra que a visão leve pra colocar noutra madeira".
