Portuguese term or phrase: participação acionara ou por cota
I know 'participação acionara' has been asked in Kudoz before, and I understand it to mean 'buyout', and 'cota' is 'shares' but how to put it here?

'total buyout or buyout by shares'?
'total or partial buyout'?

Thanks for any ideas.

stockholding or quotaholding
Explanation:
Participação acionária does not mean "buyout". It means "stockholdimg". And participação por quota means "quotaholding.

Cota is not \"shares\". It means \"quota\", which is similar to \"share\", but applies to limited liability companies. Shares apply to corporations.

participação acionara ou por cota
share or unit holding; equity interest

Explanation:
'participação acionara is NOT a buyout. It is simply an equity stake/share holding

Depending on your context, equity interest is a good way to cover both terms, as we don't make much of a distinction in English, although shares are sometimes called participations or units.
