we need a little more context but if the social security system has paid benefits or some indemnificaiton to the insured and the insured gets payments from his insurance company to cover the same event/situation, then the social security system might try to get insured to use that money to repay what social security paid him.
Same situation as when your auto insurance company pays you for damage incurred in an accident that may not have been your fault = they will go after the other guy's insurance company to get money to reimburse them for what they paid to you. suit to recover, recourse? |

Grading comment Difficult to grade because all the answers were really helpful - all the terms express the same idea I now understand what it means! Actually decided to use Deborah's suggestion of 'recovery actions' as seems to be the overwhelmingly used on the internet. many thanks to all answerers.
