I asked the client for clarification and received the folowing reply: "passível de ser protegido legalmente", so I used part of Katarina's suggestion and translated the word as "entitled to legal protection".

Wonder if it could be "entitled to privilege" as suggested by Katarina but without the "s", in the sense where privilege has to do with confidentiality? A bit farther on in the document a very similar clause adds the following: "Para tanto, a CONTRATADA compromete-se a
manter sigilo pelo prazo necessário à obtenção da protecao
legal (privilégio), extensível aos seus empregados,
contratadas, comitentes e fornecedores." What do you think?
