Portuguese to English translations [PRO] Law/Patents - Law (general)
Portuguese term or phrase:alvo (in this context)
Hello. This appears in relation to a court case, in the transcript of court proceedings, as follows:
"SESSOES X, X, X e X do ALVO X".
I'm not sure that "ALVO" means here, does it refer to statements made by a crime victim, or is it something else?
Hello Bentevi. Thanks for your note. The manner in which alvo appears in my text is similar to yours "sessões XX e XX do alvo XX". However, the names of the accused do appear, so this is not a case of protecting their identity. What I really want to know is what "alvo" means in this case and how I should translate it.
No, it has no connection with Alvor. It's probably an Appellate Court Opinion (Acórdão do Supremo Tribunal de Justiça). In Portugal, they use certain codes to protect witnesses and content of court proceedings, especially when listening to recordings pertaining to a case. It's probably something like this:
O Ex.mo JIC entendeu no despacho recorrido que o perigo de perturbação do inquérito por parte do arguido A... é real e concreto através da intimidação , por si ou através de terceiros , de testemunhas já inquiridas ou a inquirir, indicando para o efeito, nomeadamente, a intimidação que resulta das sessões 11936 e 11028 do alvo 27071.
Please, confirm this is the case. I cannot answer your question as you selected ProZ.com members:(
Too bad...there went the easy answer. :-) Without further context in the case as a a whole, can't say. I'd look for some sense of "target", "aim", or "objective" within the text. Might depend on multiple plaintiffs/defendants, criminal/civil case.
In "Alvo X", is the X a number or a name? I assume the other X's are numbers/dates. I wonder if the overall court case/proceedings had various "alvos"="objectivos" and in the sessions held in regard to "Alvo nº3" (for example).. Is this a section heading?

Explanation: Alvo doesn't make any sense to me in this context. It seems there was a typo there. Could it be Alvor ? The name of a town in Portugal ?
