Law/Patents - Law (general)
Portuguese term or phrase: "Petição"
Hi, folks! Well, this client of mine has asked me to translate a Brazilian document which has a specific layout for Law. As it is mentioned in the title, it's a "petição". Searching the internet for the translation of it, I've found the term "request", although it hasn't helped a lot yet, because I have no idea where I can find a sample of such tool. I'd appreciate any kind of help.

Thanks!

Complaint

Explanation:
Complaint is the term used in almost all US jurisdictions for the initial pleading - Blacks Law Dictionary. In EN-GB the normal term is Statement of Claim. In PT-PT the normal term is "Petição Inicial" rather than just Petitição.

Plácido de Silva (Vocabulário Jurídico) confirms that, as with PT-PT, petição inicial is the correct term for the initial pleading in PT-BR, although his comments suggest that this best practice is not always adopted.
