agree  MARK ROBERTSON: In Scots Law, at least, the spelling is legitim, but Blacks prefers the final "e".

agree  Sheryle Oliver: Despite having posted another answer, /advance (not advancement) of the legitime/ would be legit. See the World Trust Survey, Gothard & Shah.

inter-vivos transfer/bequest/trust

Explanation:
Giving inter vivos (Latin) is giving while living (vernacular) - sometimes out of generosity, sometimes for tax purposes.

'Giving while living' alters inheritances - USATODAY.com -
INHERITANCE TIPS: Death's certain. Taxes? Avoidable. "Giving while living" is becoming popular as more Americans decide to spread their money around while they're still here to see its impact.

My doubt concerns /pai ou mãe viúvos/. Why only viúvo(a)s?

disagree  MARK ROBERTSON: The legitime is a mandatory entitlement to a share of the deceased estate that cannot be defeated by a will.

Advancement of the children's statutory, entrenched portion of the estate

Explanation:
The askers have already made up their minds and awarded the points. So this is just another alternative. Legitim, as Mark R. writes, is the Scots law version and also knkown as the bairns (children') part out of the deceased's movable estate.

PS the whole term is already in the glossaries as just an advancement, as the askers suggest.
