Hi- just a quick note: here in Portugal, the Habilitação de Herdeiros is the first step in dealing with someone's estate when they have died. The inheritors have to go to a civil registry office (I think - or it might be the notary's office) and register the death and the fact that they are inheritors. This is not done in court, it is an administrative procedure. Only once this step has been taken can the estate be dealt with. I am posting this because I think things might be different in Brazil and other Portuguese speaking countries. Can anyone confirm this? thanks!
