Portuguese to English translations [PRO]
Law (general)
Portuguese term or phrase: controladas / controladoras
...obriga-se a indenizar integralmente e custear a defesa da Contratante, seus administradores e empregados, suas ****controladas, coligadas e afiliadas, além dos eventuais sucessores legais de todos estes entes, por toda e qualquer perda, dano, despesa, responsabilidade ou demanda....

........por culpa ou dolo da Contratada e/ou das Sub-contratadas, além de seus respectivos administradores, empregados, prepostos, fornecedores e ***empresas por elas controladas ou suas controladoras

Are they referring precisely to 'holding companies' and subsidiary companies', or is the idea more general, or does it have a specific localised meaning?

agree  rhandler: Answering Dr. Vasconcellos: both forms exist. The one that exercises control is the controlling company. The one upon which control is exercised is the controlled company. Example: www.soton.ac.uk/~pubaffrs/1998/9850.htm
