As autoras definem tematização e figurativização da seguinte maneira:
"Segundo Barros (1988), a tematização refere-se à formulação abstrata de valores e a disseminação destes em percursos temáticos. É ela que assegura a transformação da semântica narrativa em semântica discursiva. Enquanto isso, a figurativização é o investimento figurativo que reveste os percursos temáticos no nível discursivo. Para Peruzzolo (2004, p. 198), ela referencia representações vividas, experiências e lembranças sensoriais e, neste sentido, “organiza mais fortemente os efeitos de realidade” do discurso."
