válvulas ventriculoarterial ventriculoarterial valves Explanation: The AV and ventriculoarterial valves The ****AV and ventriculoarterial valves ***also can be assessed with cine GE sequences. Valvular stenosis or regurgitation produces turbulent jets of signal void in the appropriate directions. Regarding the AV valves, regurgitation is graded according to echocardiographic criteria and is related to the distance to which the jet extends into the atrium. Grades of valvular stenosis are calculated more reproducibly. The valve orifice areas can be measured and graded according to current standards (see Images 13-18). ------------------------------------------------------------------- We developed a simple system of an "extracorporeal" ventriculoatrial (VA) shunt using a one-way ball valve (Acty valve II, Kaneka Medix) to release the patient from postoperative constraint during the ventricular drainage. The system is constructed in such a way that the ventricular drainage tube is connected to the central venous catheter via a one-way valve. The CSF is regulated by using the valve and is diverted into the systemic circulation as in the conventional ventriculoatrial shunt. After 2 or 3 weeks of CSF diversion through the extracorporeal VA shunt, a ventriculoperitoneal shunt is placed if hydrocephalus is apparent by temporary occlusion of the system. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 5 hrs 50 mins (2005-05-15 09:17:51 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- FIG 1. A and B, Patient 2. A, A 25-gauge needle is placed in the valve component of a Cordis Unishunt ventriculoperitoneal shunt (closed arrow).
