Medical - Medical (general) / causes of death
Portuguese term or phrase: afastar, do médico, o entendimento
I have asked part of this question separately, but I want to make sure I understand the use of "afastar" here. This is from a list of changes that have been introduced in the official death certificate in Brazil:

+ substituição do nome do campo VI, de “Atestado Médico” para “Condições e Causas de Morte”, com o objetivo de **afastar, do médico, o entendimento** de que ele seria o responsável, apenas, pelo preenchimento desse campo

I'm proposing to translate this as "disabuse the physician of the impression that..."

convince the physician that he/she need not

Explanation:
"Disabuse" sounds strong to me.

Another possibility "relieve the physician of the impression that he/she"

I would suggest ofcusing on the whole sentence rather than individual words. The point seems to be that all the physician has to be concerned about is filling in this box on the form.
