Notes to answerer
Asker: It doesn't appear to be referring to a product, as it is written by hand next to the blacked out name, near the top of the page and once in the margin next to the handwritten remarks by a doctor on the hospital sheet, etc. As it is material related to a clinical trial, I believe, it could refer to the drug involved I suppose.

So sorry, Rachel, but for some reason stupid me here was sure your translation was from English, not INTO English.

If the number following the NCM is formatted like 0000.00.00, we´re talking about NCM, the Nomenclatura Comum do Mercosul. I´ve just checked the information at the ANVISA site below.

NCM - Nomenclatura Comum do Mercosul = MERCOSUR Common Nomenclature (NCM), or NCM Mercosur Common Name (ANVISA site).

Notes to answerer
Asker: Thank you for your answer - but would they use an English term in a Brazilian hospital?

Asker: Thank you Beatriz, don't worry, easy mistake!
