I spoke to my sister-in-law, who is highly educated, and she confirmed that layette is a word used in this context. So, Janisa, you can use that, in my opinion.
But, Amy, holy guacamole! I am floored by your insinuation about my level of education. I guarantee that if I were to ask all my male friends, at least 75% of them would indicate they don't know what that word means. Think of a bunch of ladies sitting around yacking about the baby on the way and the plans and preparations-- they might use the word layette. But trust me, the husbands are watching football in the other room. That does not mean they have little education. I guess it's just a matter of perspective and gender difference. My two kids were born in the USA. Layette is the word.
People talk about layette essentials, layette accessories, layette set...
