I just don't get what "profissional do direito" means in this context? Are they talking about a "Lawyer" in this case? Thanks for the help!

Explanation:
It could certainly be a lawyer; however, it could be another law professional, such as a paralegal, an investigator, etc.. Obviously from the context it would have to be someone apt and knowledgeable drafting and preparing arguments and lines of defense (such as a defense attorney).
