polícia militar regular local uniformed police, or [state name] State Police Force Explanation: This term generates a lot of questions. The above translations have been used/approved by the Brazilian Embassy, according to its chief translator, though neither is ideal. "Military police" in the US means "Policia do Exercito." They only deal with members of the military. So to translate as Military Police would be very misleading. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 24 mins (2004-03-26 22:47:25 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- In light of the comment, I have to say that we need more context but given the other questions, it seems as though we are not talking about fights or crimes committed by members of the military. Or military guys who are AWOL and breaking curfew. In Brazil, the Policia Militar is in fact the one that handles these urban situations among civilians. |
