disagree  Donna Sandin: it would have to be "mixED" - but as I say later, there are many possible translations and very little agreement on the best one

agree  Donna Sandin: Semipublic is one the IMF uses along with mixed-capital; also I've seen mixed-investment. There is very little agreement on the best translation!

  -> Thx. I've even used 'joint-venture co.' for the Fre version.

neutral  Norbert Hermann: wouldn't semi-public imply half public/half private? This is not necessarily the case with a "mixed ownership".

  -> Point taken.

agree  Michael Green: I think "semi-public corporation or company" does a good job of getting the jist of it. The Brazilian Bank Federation (Febraban) defines the term"empresa de economia mista" as: Sociedade da qual o Estado participa majoritariamente.

  -> Obrigado! As mentioned, I use 'joint-venture co.' as a cop-out. My problem is interference from the Fre version: EU trans: 'mixed investment co. -> Senegal, Africa'.
