Portuguese term or phrase: A sentence in Cohelo's "Alchemist"

In Alan R. Clarke's translation of Paulo Coelho's "O Alquimista" ("Alchemist"), Part 2, sub-chapter 14, paragraph 2, there is a sentence that goes: "He always enjoyed seeing the happiness that the traveler experienced...". I want to know if this sentence has been translated into English correctly. Unfortunately, I don't have access to the original.

It loses a tiny bit in the translation, but the meaning is effectively unchanged.

A literal translation:

"Even so, he was not able to contain in the bottom of his heart one bit of the joy of living that every traveler experienced (experimented), after yellow land and blue sky, the green of the date palms appearing before their eyes."

Asker: Thanks Craig. I have the English translation. Actually, I'm working on a Farsi translation of the novel that seems to have been translated from the English version. The Farsi translation goes like: "He could not overcome the happiness that ....", which does not match the English text. I wanted to see what the original said.
