Portuguese term or phrase: ser centralizador
"ser centralizador"

I am having a hard time coming up with a good English equivalent for this word when used in the context of a boss or leader. Maybe just self-centered or self-involved, but I feel like that doesn't full capture the full meaning of this word. Would love some suggestions!

to have hoarding behavior OR being a monopolizer/monopolistic

Explanation:

Example:
"One top manager we worked with swore that he was going to delegate several important responsibilities. He brought in a new person at a senior level, but he was simply unable to trust her to do the work. After a few weeks, he began managing around her, issuing directives about things he had supposedly delegated and generally making her life miserable. Eventually, the manager’s *hoarding behavior* left him isolated and hobbled."

* Do Houaiss:
monopolizar - tomar exclusivamente para si.
açambarcador - que ou aquele que açambarca ou toma conta de tudo.
açambarcar - tomar posse de; assenhorear-se.

monopolistic
Definition
1. Having exclusive control over a commercial activity by possession or legal grant.

to be wrapped up in oneself

Explanation:
I think this may be what is meant here.

Or you could use any of these: to be self-seeking, inward looking, self-absorbed

(to be) autocratic

Explanation:
An Autocratic style means that the manager makes decisions unilaterally, and without much regard for subordinates. As a result, decisions will reflect the opinions and personality of the manager; this in turn can project an image of a confident, well managed business. On the other hand, subordinates may become overly dependent upon the leaders and more supervision may be needed.

There are two types of autocratic leaders:

* the Directive Autocrat makes decisions unilaterally and closely supervises subordinates;
* the Permissive Autocrat makes decisions unilaterally, but gives subordinates latitude in carrying out their work.[1]
