Portuguese term or phrase: se for pra dar
This is an abused woman talking about her husband's behaviour when was drunk:
"Mas com bebida era uma pessoa muito agressiva, mau, mau que **se for pra dar** dá mesmo, não olha a meios se aquilo é de vidro, se aquilo é de ferro, se aquilo é…não olha.”

I think it means something like, "if necessary". Perhaps in this context, "if he thought you deserved it (he would hit you)".

It would be good to have opinions especially from native PT speakers.

spank her with [ glass, metal objects, etc.]

Explanation:
I read this "se for pra dar" as part of the expression "dar porrada" = spank, hit someone physically.

See entry in Babylon Dictionary:

dar porrada
to beat up, spank

Very ugly situation, but it still happens nowadays in our society: drunken men beating up their wives.

Explanation:
(he) gives me what for! - Idiomatic expression in UK English for giving someone a good hiding (whether they deserve it or not!)
