Portuguese term or phrase:polo emissivo e receptivo
Prezados colegas:
The United Nations classified three forms of tourism in 1994 in its Recommendations on Tourism Statistics: Domestic tourism, which involves residents of the given country traveling only within this country; Inbound tourism, involving non-residents traveling in the given country; and Outbound tourism, involving residents traveling in another country. So from a U.S. perspective when an American goes on a trip to France that's an example of outbound tourism.
Hi, Ana and Donna,
I understood what it meant, but I thought there should be a way to say it that was used by the people in the trade. Thank you for your messages!
That is the idea I got as well. I was wondering if it could be said that 'Bahia is the main importer and exporter of tourists in North and Northeastern Brazil'. However, I am not sure importer and exporter may be used for tourists or if there are better terms.
maybe we need a little more context? The idea must be that Bahia sends the most people to other destinations and receives the most visitors of any part of Brazil's North/Northeast?

9 hrs confidence:
departure and arrival point
Explanation: I think this might work quite well in the context, as they are talking about travellers.
Bahia is the main departure and arrival point for the North/North-East...
I don't think you can import and export people (at least not any more :-))
