Portuguese term or phrase: está em esquema de siga e pare
This is part of a series of short updates on things happening in Rio. It appears there are traffic diversions due to landslides, but I'm not sure if there is a (UK) English equivalent for 'esquema de siga e pare'. Does anyone know? Should I just reword it? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Interdição
O tráfego na RJ-116, Itaboraí-Friburgo, está em esquema de siga e pare em dois pontos da via, em Mury. Obras emergenciais serão feitas por causa de deslizamentos na região.

agree  ViBe: Stop-and-go is correct, but I'd consider going with "pattern" for "esquema," or wave, or even crawl (if the register allows)

traffic is narrowed to a single lane

Explanation:
e.g.,

SCOTTSBURG — A landslide is blocking the eastbound lanes of Oregon 38 (Umpqua Highway) at mile point 15.5, about a mile west of Scottsburg. An estimated 300 yards of debris has come down, or about 30 dump truck loads. ODOT crews are on scene. Traffic is narrowed to a single lane with flaggers. Motorists should expect short delays.
