Tipul cel mai frecvent este al caselor cu tindă, întâlnit în toată partea centrală a Transilvaniei; intrarea principală este prin tindă, iar din ea se ajunge în camera de locuit, detaliu ce o deosebeşte fundamental de tipul caselor cu cămară, unde fiecare încăpere are intrări separate, iar peretele despărţitor nu are nici o uşă.
Casa cu tindă mai poate fi clasificată după prezenţa sau absenţa târnaţului, exemplele cele mai elocvente din cadrul acestei grupe sunt: casa fără târnaţ compusă dintr-o tindă şi o cameră de locuit; casa cu târnaţ, tindă, cameră, cu şopron ataşat unde este adăpostit cuptorul; şi casa cu soclu de piatră ce a permis construirea unei pivniţe sub el.
