Problema cu 'Congratulations on the birth of your baby!' e ca desi e solutia perfecta pt. nou nascuti nu acopera gama larga de alte situatii in care romanii spun 'sa va traiasca'. De exemplu o pensionara la coada la posta spune unei doamne pe care abea a intilnit-o: Am un baiat in Canada. S-ar putea sa i se raspunda: 'Sa va traiasca', caz in care s-ar putea ca, daca schimbul de replici ar fi fost in engleza, sa avem 'How lovely!' sau 'That's nice!' :o) Care nu traduce binecuvantarea frumoasa: 'sa va traiasca'. Aceeasi problema e cu 'La multi ani!' which is more than 'Happy Birthday!' and more than 'Many happy returns of the day!'

.... findca pare fortat.
La primul meu job in Canda am avut o profesoara care, in fiecare zi de luni, venea in biroul meu pentru Coloquial English 101. Motivul? CEO-ul firmei pentru care lucram, si de altfel cel care a pus toata chestia asta la cale, mi-a spus " If you don't mind ... your English is really good but you sound like you're ready to meet The Queen rather than relate to the common folk"
Deci "stiff" nu e o.k. decat, poate, pentru ESL.
