Sorry, I did not mean to sound "funny". What I am talking about is a discussion comment from one of the translators who did not like my comment on her Kudoz suggestion and she told me that in Romania the translators translate using their own form of "Rom-English" and that my knowledge and experience was therefore not valid. I am sure that this is not everybody's opinion but maybe these sort of discussions can help lead the way to common understanding - which is one way that language develops I suppose. My comment was not directed at Romanian translators generally and not meant to offend.

Your last posting is kinda funny... I think it is because most translators and interpreters did not experience their target language' country first-hand and thus lack the ability to place their translation in "native-like" context so to speak. Plainly put, they know english - some very good - but prefer a verbatim translation which often makes no sense to an English/American native. I had to interpret many times from English to English.... English spoken or written by a Romanian native to English spoken by an American native...

Yes. I appreciate hearing your opinion. I have also been confronted with opinions that translations within Romania are OK if they are not strictly English sounding because apparently Romanian-English has its own version which differs from other English.

Your last post supports my point of view that in some fields, like legal, diplomas, etc. we need to know not only the target language but also the target country. I disagree with some of our colleagues who think that "tot engleză este”, covers the whole spectrum of English.

Thank you yes. But I think Chris Hughes has it, we don't say Defendant in UK in divorce cases - Respondent seems better for UK anyway.

I would say ”the defendant appeared in person at the public hearing for Summary Dissolution" (or divorce- I don't know the procedure in the UK)
