"În seara aceea se stârnise o furtună grea şi apăsătoare...Vântul clătina *becul*care ilumina strada şi cercurile concentrice ale globului, umbrindu-se pe pereţi, se legănau ca o apă agitată într-un vas."

(Povestea are loc în jur de ani 1920-1930 în Roman, România. )


Nu prea ştiu despre ce este vorbă. Aici "becul" este un "light bulb" ??? -->> http://www.eia.doe.gov/emeu/cbecs/bulb1.gif

With all due respect, lantern este felinar portabil. Iar daca ii spunem street lamp, poate fi orice, cu gaz, cu electricitate, cu licurici, nu se specifica :)

I will probably translate "bec" as "lamp" rather than "street lamp" in order to preserve the flow of the prose. (By the way, street lamp is in the dictionary...). I think "lantern" would not be *wrong*; it's just that it conjures up for me an image like this http://www.bradfitzpatrick.com/stock_illustration/images/cartoon_lantern_01.jpg

Dupa cunostintele mele umile de istorie si urbanistica, in jurul anilor 20 erau acele lampione care luminau strazile. Veneau seara niste lucratori publici a caror slujba consta efectiv sa aprinda aceste lampioane... si le-as laa cat mai neutru in engleza : "street lantern"
