Public Service Compensation
Public Service Compensation services include payroll, benefits and pension plan administration for federal public servants and pensioners. The administration of payroll and insurance processes is done in accordance with collective agreements and compensation policies established by the Treasury Board Secretariat.

The Public Service Pension Plan is a pension plan for public service employees and provides retirement, disability and death benefits for contributors and their families. Government of Canada employees and pensioners are the target audience for pension services, and represent an important part of the Canadian population.

Service Elements Currently On-line
Pension Calculators
Web-based calculators provide public servants with pension scenarios, without having to ask their compensation advisor for the information. These calculators include the Pension Benefits Calculator that provides pension benefit information including an estimate of the net pension amount and a transfer value estimation. This application is currently available based on user input. Other calculators include the Service Buyback Estimator, which estimates the cost of purchasing prior pensionable service.
Pensioners Web Site
According to an on-line survey completed in 2004-2005, the inability to contact the Superannuation, Pension Transition and Client Services Sector by e-mail was a major issue. The "Contact Us" page has been modified accordingly to provide active and retired Public Service Pension Plan members with the ability to contact the Sector electronically.
The Calendar of Events was updated to reflect 2005 activities and the "Frequently Asked Questions" have been enhanced.
Planned Improvements or Enhancements
2005

Operational Service Calculation
An enhancement to include Operational Service on the Web is scheduled for release in fiscal year 2005-2006. This modification will also be available in time for the distribution of the next paper version of the Pension Benefits Statement.
Retirement Information Package
The on-line Retirement Information Package was developed and completed with implementation scheduled for April 2005. The Retirement Information Package will assist employees by outlining the requirements for retirement.
Service Buyback Package
The enhanced Web site will include background information on electing to buy back eligible prior service, will guide the user through the administrative process, and will provide on-line access to the various forms that must be filled out when making an election. This will allow the user to elect for service in an informed and convenient manner.
Web Pre-Filled Service Buyback Periods
This Web initiative will allow Public Service Pension Plan participants the opportunity to view their known and allowable periods of elected prior service.
Pension Stub on the Web (Pensioners Web Site)
Retirees under the Public Service Pension Plan and their survivors will have the ability to access their pension stub information on the Web. Currently, pensioners receive one annual payment stub in January (unless the payment amount changes) however, with this new initiative they will be able to access their personal information on-line whenever they desire.
Voluntary Deductions (Pensioners Web Site)
Pensioners under the Public Service Pension Plan and their survivors will have the ability to add, change or delete selected voluntary deductions. They will be able to perform activities such as increasing their tax deductions on-line without having to contact their pension advisor.

The New Public Service Pension Plan Web Site
The new Public Service Pension Plan Web site is the amalgamation of the current Compensation Sector Pension Benefits Web site, the Superannuation, Pension Transition and Client Services Sector Web site, and the pension portions of the Treasury Board Secretariat Web site. This new Web site will include both secure and non-secure areas where users can find all of their pension information.
Benefits of On-line Delivery
Pay and Pension Web Development Functions

Public servants will be able to electronically access personal and pay and pension-related information
Public servants will be able to complete on-line transactions and perform pay and pension calculations, without requiring intervention from their compensation specialists
Pensioner Self-Service Web Functions

Pensioners will be able to access their own personal and payment-related information and complete discretionary on-line transactions
Requests to Pension Councillors for simple forms or publications will be reduced allowing them more time to deal with more complicated pension issues
Service Transformation
Annuitants and their survivors will be able to access pension information online without worrying about business hours or time zone differences.

Two PSSA Self-Service initiatives, Pension Stub on the Web and the ability to add/change/delete selected Voluntary Deductions are being developed and will be implemented pending security implementation. Future development schedules include the ability to change address information online.
