Russian term or phrase:
I have two ratios:

I presume 2. is debt/equity ratio

I have seen various definitions in Russian for Коэффициент автономии. I am not really sure how it differs from the debt/equity ratio. Does anyone understand this?

Many thanks in advance!

Equity to total assets
Explanation:
If one is to believe the definition given by Marina Aidova, the difference btw the two ratios is two-fold: in one case it's a ratio of debt to equity (i.e. own funds and property), in the other - equity to TOTAL ASSETS, i.e. the sum of debt and equity. Debt to equity is a much more widely used indicator, in some 10+ years of dealing with finance and investments I have never heard of it. It is not particularly surprising though, since financial ratios are a legion, and they still keep coming up with new ones. Autonomy ratio is not a standard term in English accounting and investment speak, it appears to be a purely Russian invention. Most of the google hits on autonomy ratio that I found refer to either Russian sources or something entirely different in a technical sense.

I meant I've never heard of the other one, equity to total assets. It's just another way of looking at the issue though.

Total debt to equity/Equity ratio/Autonomy Ratio

Explanation:

Equity ratio

AuR = E/TA,
TA (Total Assets) -

A new capital mobility measure

Aizenman et al. (2004) address issues similar to those of Feldstein and Horioka (1980). Their methodology, however, differs, in that it focuses on the ratio of cumulative discounted gross national saving and gross national investment. They interpret this as a

indicating the share of tangible capital supported by past national saving. The numerator may be viewed as the amount of capital that would be available if all of the country's investments were domestically financed—that is, without relying on external borrowing, and assuming that the path of national savings was unchanged. The denominator of the ratio represents the actual stock of domestic capital.

disagree  The Misha: Both ratios in question measure different aspects of financial leverage in company finances, but they are NOT the financial leverage themselves. It's like saying that kilos or pounds are the weight rather than measures of weight.
