Kurt Porter: I like the links, but when I think of Sheremetovo, sitting in those glass cases, no sodas, no drinks, no food, no toilets, lounge doesn't come to mind. However, Shere does have a "first-class" lounge, which is a much more pleasent experience (I peeked!)

Explanation:
Having flown in Russia/FSU this would seem to best fit what is being described, as it is not quite the same thing as the gate.

As I recall this is after the gate (where the boarding passes and passports are checked) and where passengers are held before actually going out to the plane. It might be an idea to incorporate some of the words used in the reference below (e.g. apron, i.e. the area where the aircraft is 'parked') to bring out the meaning more explicitly.

Александр, это вовсе даже "старояз"! Все, кому пришлось полетать по СССР, помнят эти загородки, ограниченные барьерами, скамейками и стражниками. Это когда уже пройдешь регистрацию, но тебя еще не пригласили в самолет или на автобус, который к нему везет. Первые там ждали последних, оттуда не было пути назад ни в буфет, ни в туалет:-), сидела и стояла загнанная в него толпа пассажиров и ждала команды на посадку, бывало, что и часами. "Накопитель" было совершенно официальным названием. Ни в одном западном аэропорту ничего подобного нет, т.е. есть действительно waiting area или gate, это не обязательно lounge, или как минимум open lounge, просто некая площадь зала со скамейками у нужной стойки/входа (gate)

For the passenger’s convenience, the airport has a boarding lounge that was recently remodeled and extended. It now has 480 seats and 6 gates leading onto the airport apron.
