Russian to English translations [PRO] Art/Literary - Cinema, Film, TV, Drama / movie
Russian term or phrase:clofelin
Context: character in a movie puts a bottle of clofelin in his pocket b/c he plans to put it in someone's drink and then rob the person.
I've only heard of clofelin in Russia. What is the "standad" drug of choice for such maneuvers in America? We say that you "slip someone a mickey," but you wouldn't say "I put a mickey in my pocket." Doesn't work.
Explanation: Rohypnol is a brand name for
flunitrazepam (a benzodiazepine), a very potent tranquilizer similar
in nature to valium (diazepam), but many times stronger. The drug
produces a sedative effect, amnesia, muscle relaxation, and a slowing
of psychomotor responses. Sedation occurs 20-30 minutes after
administration and lasts for several hours. The drug is often
distributed on the street in it's original "bubble packaging" which
adds an air of legitimacy and makes it appear to be legal. The drug is
not commonly used by physicians in the United States and is not even
listed in the commonly used Physician's Desk Reference.
It is(or was some years ago)rather popular way to rob.Clofelin with alcogol works fast and this person would sleep at least 3 hours. The deal is that it's saled freely in Russia(no prescr.) but the other stuff for sleep you can't buy.
I've never heard of clonodine being used this way, I believe it's a blood pressure drug that was also used to help suffering heroin addicts who couldn't get methadone for whatever reason. As to mickeys, chlorhydrate would probably work much better.

clopheline
Единственно, что если документ неофициальный, неплохо бы добавить определение, напр. a vial with clopheline, a dangerous sleep-inducing drug...

below
Explanation: It's a anti-hypertonia (high blood pressure) prescription medicine - 100% as my dad used it for years...
It's lowering the blood pressure therefore criminals use it (give it with vodka or some other strong alcohol) to knock the victim out and rob after.
