Для организации электропередачи от ЛАЭС-2 в Финляндию через Финский залив (самое короткое расстояние) существует только один способ – это передача электроэнергии постоянным током. Для этого необходимо построить выпрямительную подстанцию в районе ЛАЭС-2, линию постоянного тока (состоящую из кабельной линии и воздушной линии электропередачи) и инверторную подстанцию (преобразующую электроэнергию из постоянного тока в переменный) на Выборгской ПС. Передаваемая мощность должна составлять 1000 МВт на напряжении ±300 кВ и током 1700 А.

По состоянию на 15.04.2011 г. разработана трасса ЛЭП постоянного тока, ведутся инженерные изыскания по сухопутной трассе ВЛ ±300 кВ длиной 62 км на территории Выборгского района Ленинградской области, по площадкам под строительство выпрямительной подстанции.
