I think that "distillation" is used more than "rectification," at least in the United States. I worked at an American engineering company on oil and gas projects for 3+ years, and I never heard "rectification" used in the context of oil refineries. For example, one of the largest units at a refinery is often the CDU/VDU, which stands for "continuous distillation unit/vacuum distillation unit." It is a massive column where the feedstock is distilled under atmospheric pressure and under vacuum. |
