Well, I guess it must be a dwarf something-or-other. One of my dictionaries (1st below) has "березовый стланник" or "березовый стланец", both meaning "dwarf birch", Latin name "Betula nana". The other (2nd below) has "сосновый стланник" or "стланик" or "стланец", meaning "mountain pine", Latin name "Pinus montana".
