MDF is medium density fiberboard. typically fiberboard is the base material onto which a laminate (usually some type of plastic) is applied making it more durable and easier to clean.

i have never herd a term that would refer to the entire product laminate+fiberboard. usually the discussion is only about the laminate type and color and the thickness of the MDF depends on where the laminate will be used (countertops vs cabinets) and is not usually discussed. here is an example of a laminate producer.
