Full sentence, describing taxes collected in kind in 1940 Bessarabia:

I have Ushakov's definition but am struggling to render the concept:

agree  Alexander Kondorsky: сейчас изгороди вокруг деревень не строят, и слово "околица" означает просто условную границу деревни. Так я и хотел сказать, что outskirts правильный перевод, и никакого fence around не надо :-))
