Law/Patents - Government / Politics
Russian term or phrase: гражданско-правовое законодательство
Usually I translte "гражданско-правовой договор" as "retainer services contract" (as opposed to an employment contract - трудовой договор" - but what do I do with this? "Retainer services legislation" just sounds odd.

From an article on law:
Гражданско-правовой договор
-Является основанием для возникновения гражданско-правовых отношений, которые регулируются гражданско-правовым законодательством, в основном Гражданским кодексом РК (в частности главой 33 особенной части ГК РК.

English translation:private law legislation
Explanation:
There are several confusing dichotomy's here.

Civil law is in principle applicable, but it may not be clear what kind of "civil law" we are talking about: civil law vs. criminal law or civil law vs common law?

"Private law" in my view is a better option because this is how "common law" systems generally describe the body of law applicable to relations between individuals not involving the state (which in "civil law" systems is usually referred to as "civil law").

The dichotomy here is: private law vs public law (including criminal, administrative and constitutional law).

-> You think so? American English is not the only real English in the world. And my mind is not capable of making up such words as "civil legislation". Pls see http://www.1kran.ru/pages/sud-leb.html , http://www.gov.im/oft/tradingstandards/criminalvcivil.xml
