Хотела заметить, что disagree Владимира в отношении restriction of access в данном случае было обоснованным, т. к. в этом контексте restriction - это такой же описательный перевод, как и differentiation, и delimitation и пр., а не искомый специальный термин. Katerina, if you use the "разграничение доступа" term as a detached one from the context, Access Restriction/Restriction of Access will work as well as Access Control does. In your case, Microsoft gives another definition linked closely to your conceptions - Discretionary Access Control List - Cписок Управления Доступом На Уровне Пользователей (рабочих станций). So this question itself has not adequately been asked

I can't quite agree on полное неприятие of 'restriction'. I wasn't sure it's the correct term in this case. Thank you for the discussion, which I think really is "the most helpful answer". For now I use 'access control' and wait for the clarification from the customer's engineers on what they actually had in mind. I'll let you know)

Я вовсе не считаю также, что Джек неправ, равно как и не спорю с вашим комментарием по поводу оттенков понятия restriction of access; как бы глупо было бы спорить по такому поводу с носителями языка. Однако в данном контексте, причём именно в заголовках разделов (а это ведь заголовки, или я фетровая шляпа!), вариант Игоря куда более к месту. Для справочного аппарата издания и для тем, которые они предваряют, access control — лучше.
Да, и насчёт справедливости вы всё-таки тоже совершенно правы, минус там ни к месту. Так и сделаю.

Thanks for the prolific references. I'm not questioning "access control" by any means. I just felt that your comment under Jack's answer was unjustified. Access restriction does not necessarily imply blocking all access, as you seem to imply, but is a policy that makes data available to a limited number of people or for a limited use. Based on this fact alone, I suggest that you remove your "disagree" under Jack's answer, if you want to be fair.

And is it just me, or are you being condescending? ("Oh my", "need more?", that kind of stuff).
