Russian term or phrase:

I understand that "казусная ситуация" is the situation humorous, yet embarrassing in nature, but I can not come up with one word. Any help would be appreciated.

Maybe you can rephrase it and use an idiom:

to drop a clanger - http://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/drop a clanger
However, it is British and Australian

Or maybe even - to step on a rake

Hope it helps or hints you for smth else..)

Explanation:
... albeit I don't quite get it – what's so particular about being gay... though what could one expect from a person who would write things like “неисчерпаемый ром“? :)
