disagree  Susan Welsh: "Inborn" is genetic, "mother's milk" is, well, not genetic. (PS - No offense, but not being able to think of alternatives is not a reason for a 5 confidence level.)

agree  Rachel Douglas: Yes, "to imbibe X with their mother's milk" is a nice idiomatic phrase in English, even if not used as much as in earlier times. But maybe try to get it out of the passive: "respect for private property is something they need to imbibe with their mm."

-> Yes, thanks, Rachel. I don't like PV either. I just gave the terminology. The rest would depend on how the rest of the phrase is...oops... on how the asker would translate the rest of the phrase :)

agree  Leigh Mosley: They're both good, but I might go with the second. Or even "at their mother's knee."
