Russian to English translations [Non-PRO] Linguistics | | Russian term or phrase: Октябрьская революция | Thank you so much for your input, I am amazed at how this web community operates...congradulations to you all.
So to clarify my question... if I wrote
Октябрьская революция this would translate into October Revolution in English??
If I wrote октябрь this translates into simply October in English, only it is a lower case letter begining in Russian as they do not start the months with upper case letters as in English.
If I wrote Октябрьская does this translate into English as October? And does using the upper case letter at the begining of the Russian indicate that I am most likely writing about the October Revolution?
Does this mean anything to anyone ОКТЯБРЬ ? I found it on the web dictionary, is this Russian |
| | | The Great October Socialist Revolution | Explanation: That's how it was translated into English during the USSR times.
Now probably it would be useful to keep this name, adding something like "the so-called".
Another opiton - to add something like ".. of November 07, 1917"). Anyway if we have the name "October revulition" which actually took place in November, it's better to add "so called".

You probably have different encoding. With Cyrillic (Windows) there is no dots and other signs as the Russian language, actually, does not have many (two). The Polish language has. |

| Grading comment Thank you Mr Dubisskiy, I really appreciate your input.
I notice that the upper and lower case letters in Russian have many symbols and dots above them, is this text on the computer only, or is that how each letter is actually written??
I have two different versions of the spelling of OCTOBER in upper case. They are октябрь ОКТЯБРЬ
Can you please tell me which one is the most appropriate or correct, as they are very different to each other.
