Explanation:
С обеих сторон в цилиндр установлены поршни 31 в сборе с уплотнителями и деталями автоматического устройства. Основным элементом автоматического устройства является разрезное упорное кольцо 26, расположенное в этой подсборке между буртиком упорного винта 25 и двумя сухарями 27 с зазором 1,4; 1,6 мм. Упорные кольца установлены в цилиндр с натягом, обеспечивающим усилие сдвига кольца по зеркалу цилиндра не менее 35 кгс, что превышает усилие от стяжных пружин тормозных колодок. В упорном кольце выполнена прорезь для выхода воздуха при прокачке тормозной системы.

This is more of a guess, though - the only similar word usage
that comes to my mind is зеркало испарения - в системах охлаждения/теплоотвода - but you case sounds different.
What exactly do you mean by a machining operation?
