chronopharmacology Explanation: As simple as that. Good luck! -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 2002-05-13 09:28:48 (GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Chronopharmacology is the science dealing with the optimisation of drug effects and the minimisation of adverse effects by timing medications in relation to biological rhythms.1This science may improve the treatment of disease. The first chronotherapy to be applied in clinical practice was the morning daily dosing of methylprednisolone in the 1960’s. This was aimed at mimicking the rhythmic variation of hormone levels in healthy individuals. Other chronotherapies are useful when either the risk or intensity of symptoms is known to vary predictably over time as in asthma, allergic rhinitis, arthritis, myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure, stroke and peptic ulcer disease.2 http://www.cis.um.edu.mt/~phcy/symp98/MarushkaAbela.html -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 2002-05-13 09:30:28 (GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Chronopharmacology is the study of the effect of time on drug effectiveness, efficiency and the occurrences of adverse effects. It is well documented that blood pressure varies within the 24 hour period with peak blood pressures measured in the early morning. This study is monitoring the blood pressure during a 24 hour period in known hypertensive patients taking Beta-blockers and Angiotensin Converting Enzyme (ACE) Inhibitors. From this investigation, the optimal time of day for the administration of the particular antihypertensive drug will be determined. http://www.cis.um.edu.mt/~phcy/projects/final_year_projects/... |
