GLOSSARY ENTRY (DERIVED FROM QUESTION BELOW)
Russian term or phrase:
кольцо для отрыва, обеспечивающее контроль первого вскрытия
Thanks, that's helpful. It's nice to know that I did in fact picture the thing correctly based on the Russian description, even if I didn't know exactly what to call it in English. (And yes, I'm a native English speaker...sigh!)
Hi Natalie, Yes, that makes sense. I think what is confusing me is this word прокладка. How would you translate the whole phrase, под которой расположена прокладка с кольцом для отрыва, обеспечивающим контроль первого вскрытия? If we just say "screw cap with tamper-evident ring", is the прокладка missing?
Hi Jennifer, whatever is the design of the closure, "кольцо для отрыва, обеспечивающее контроль первого вскрытия" is just "tamper-evident ring" - http://tinyurl.com/3palzts
Natalie, I think I understand what you are describing - a ring around the base of the cap that you pull off before you can unscrew the cap. Based on the entire context given, though, I was envisioning something different...more like an inner seal under the screw-on cap that is lifted out by a pull ring (since the full text said it was под крышкой, and it was прокладка с кольцом). There is probably a better way to say it than what I've suggested, but I think they are two different things. Take a look at http://tinyurl.com/3h2znlz at the photo on the lower left labeled "pull-ring cap" - you can see the yellow screw cap and the inner pull-ring cap. That's what I thought was being described. BTW, I like "tamper-evident".
Я тоже за то, чтобы называть это как можно короче.
Борис, а насчет вашего первого вопроса, про "tamper evident": связать очень просто - "tamper evident ring".
Но "safety ring" встречается чаще.
safety ring which is secured when the cap is screwed on to the bottle
Explanation: The HDPE tamper evident cap incorporates a safety ring which is secured when the cap is screwed on to the bottle. Opening the bottle breaks the safety ring, showing signs of interference. http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/item.aspx?itemid=24965&cati...

tamper-evident ring
Explanation: В целом вполне достаточно написать просто:
The bottle is closed with a tamper-evident screw cap.
То, что по-русски выглядит очень многословным, по-английски - всего одно выражение.
