Я попробовал "прочесать" базу данных MEDLINE, использовав "osteochondrosis AND disc*" в качестве ключевых слов (т.е. они должны присутствовать в публикации одновременно). Нашлось 2 десятка таковых публикаций на английском. Подавляющее большинство - из стран, в которых говорят по-немецки. Американская работа - 1 (но в ней слово "disc" оказалось частью слова... "discharge"). Британских публикаций - 0. Австралийских и новозеландских - ровно столько же...
The alternative term in English you are thinking of may be "slipped disc", but this is colloquial, medically incorrect and would not be used in the sort of text you are translating.
